House committee renews push for local police radar law

Get pulled over by a local police officer in Pennsylvania and you can be sure of at least one thing – you weren’t caught speeding by a radar gun.

That’s because in the Commonwealth, radar timing devices can be only used by the state police. Pennsylvania is the only state that prohibits municipal police from using radar, and Rep. Greg Rothman (R-Cumberland) is the latest in a long succession of lawmakers who want that to change.

At DHS budget hearing, senators express frustration with vital records delays

In an increasingly digital world, why does it take two months for a Pennsylvania resident to obtain a copy of a birth certificate from the Division of Vital Records, and upwards of half a year to get a death certificate?

That was a question posed today by Sen. Wayne Langerholc (R-Cambria) at the Senate Appropriations Committee’s belated budget hearing with the Department of Human Services.
