Senate begins formal look at Kane removal

Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson) announced Friday the formation of what will be a bipartisan committee to look at whether removal proceedings through “Senate address” aimed at Attorney General Kathleen Kane are warranted.

While members of the committee will be announced on Monday, October 26, 2015, during Senate session, Sen. Scarnati said he will work with Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny) on the appointment of the six-member special committee.

The initial proceedings of the committee are not going to be open to the public, Sen. Scarnati said.

According to an explanatory press release, the direct removal proceeding through Senate address is provided for in Article 6, section 7 of the Pennsylvania Constitution.
