Bill Prohibiting Multiple Co-Payments to Receive Unusual Hearing Tuesday

On April 29th the Senate took the unusual procedural step of recommitting a bill, SB 594, back to the committee from which it had been reported from nearly three weeks earlier. The reason, made explicit during the April 9th voting meeting on the legislation, was so that a public hearing could be held to air out the implications of the measure, which is intended to prevent insurance companies from charging separate co-pays for separate services during a trip to a single provider.

Capitol Quick Hits for 5.5.14

Here are the highlights from news conferences, rallies, and advocacy days held in the Capitol today. 

  • Rep. Rosita Youngblood (D-Philadelphia) officially kicked off “Diaper Awareness Week." Rep. Youngblood said the nation is facing a growing epidemic and a widening diaper gap, with nearly one in every three families struggling to buy diapers for their children. To close that gap, she is sponsoring a week-long Diaper Drive event in the Capitol until Friday, May 9.

  • The Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania held its HOME Matters Day in the Capitol Rotunda to talk about the Affordable Housing Tax for Pennsylvania and additional revenue for the State Housing Trust Fund. ​
  • First Lady Susan Corbett announced today that Pennsylvania will host its first Hauler Parade on June 5th. She explained 15 to 20 hauler trucks will be staged at the Farm Show Complex from 10-11:30 a.m.; the trucks will then drive through the Capitol Complex, pausing for photos, then move on to interstate 81 to drive to the Pocono Raceway.
