People with disabilities talk to legislators at Pittsburgh summit

At Representative Dan Miller’s (D-Allegheny) annual Disability Summit, a group of bipartisan leaders gathered to hear from advocates, people with disabilities, and their loved ones Friday afternoon outside of Pittsburgh.

Miller, with other lawmakers such as Rep. Austin Davis (D-Allegheny) and Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-Washington) spoke with people with disabilities about their experiences and heard their suggestions on accessible public infrastructure, anti bullying policies, and access to assistance.

Corman introduces anti-hazing legislation in wake of Penn State frat death

With the parents of Timothy Piazza flanking him on the steps of the Centre County courthouse, Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Centre) today introduced legislation bearing the deceased Penn State student’s name to increase the punishments for hazing.

Pointing to his own time as a Greek, Corman — whose district includes State College — said the bill was an attempt to prevent any deaths from initiation rites in the state’s fraternities, sororities or other organizations by adding stiff consequences.
