The Senate Health and Human Services Committee unanimously advanced three acting secretary nominations Monday.

Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Acting Secretary Jennifer Smith, Department of Human Services Acting Secretary Teresa Miller, and Department of Health Acting Secretary and Physician General Rachel Levine all were sent to the Senate Rules and Executive Nominations Committee with the committee’s favorable recommendation.

Department of Corrections pushes for more resources at the county level for criminal justice reform

Both the Department of Corrections (DOC) and Council of State Governments' Justice Center said that more resources at the county level will lead to smaller recidivism rates and save state money during a hearing Monday with the Senate Judiciary Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee's subcommittee on Public Safety and Criminal Justice.

“You can make the argument that incentivizing counties to be more creative is our best bet,” said DOC Secretary John Wetzel.
