City Council passes two referendum questions, laud Meek Mill

One week after Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney (D) visited City Council to offer his budget address, the body received another well-known Philadelphian. Rapper Robert “Meek Mill” Williams attended the weekly session, as council gave him a proclamation of “Meek Mill Weekend”.

Meek Mill has been a focal point of cultural and political conversation in the state. While the Philadelphia Eagles and fans celebrated the Super Bowl last year with his song “Dreams and Nightmares”, Mill sat in prison after a local judge jailed him for a parole violation. His release on bail in April drew national attention, and he has since become a powerful voice for criminal justice reform.
