Lawmakers push legislation to protect taxpayers against municipal government malfeasance

Following the recent release of a Grand Jury report by Attorney General Josh Shapiro outlining the negligent and potentially illegal activity of former Harrisburg Mayor Steve Reed and other city and county government actors concerning the city’s incinerator, lawmakers at the state Capitol are hoping the event will act as a catalyst for bipartisan, bicameral legislation to make it across the legislative finish line.

 

Reintroducing, amending, and developing new proposals, a small group of House and Senate lawmakers Wednesday said some actions by municipalities and related authorities could put the taxpayers on the hook for bad financial decisions, illegal activity, or negligent actions; things that the package of bills being introduced are designed to prevent.

Rep. Patty Kim (D-Dauphin) took a few minutes Monday morning to sit down with The PLS Reporter to answer questions for our series "Women in Pennsylvania Government". 

Rep. Kim has had a unique career path before becoming a member of the House of Representatives. She went to Boston College and studied communications which led to her being a news reporter for ten years before running for city council.
