Pittsburgh Mayor announces executive order creating paid safe leave policy

Mayor Bill Peduto Tuesday announced an executive order creating a paid safe leave policy for city employees facing intimate partner violence. Once enacted, the policy will allow victims paid time off to deal with matters such as obtaining medical care, finding safe housing, and filing Protection from Abuse orders if necessary.

Mayor Bill Peduto wants immigrants and refugees to know that Pittsburgh is a welcoming city for all. 

Peduto joined the U.S. Conference of Mayors, declaring Tuesday the Cities’ Immigration Day of Action- a declaration of solidarity with immigrant families around the city and nation.

Pittsburgh City Council introduces legislation to create new department focused on transportation

Pittsburgh City Council introduced legislation Tuesday that would officially create the new Department of Mobility of Infrastructure. 

The department, tasked with improving the planning, financing and implementation of transportation projects, is the result of a recommendation by a report with the National Association of City Transportation Officials conducted last year.

Pittsburgh Mayor issues Executive Orders on affordable housing

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto issued two executive orders on Tuesday to begin implementing recommendations by the city’s Affordable Housing Task Force, covering ways to protect people from losing their housing. 

“My administration is committed to creating a livable city for all,” said Mayor Peduto in a letter along with the orders. “These executive orders are the first step in a long process to solve not only the challenges of today but to lay the foundations for an equitable Pittsburgh in the future.”

State Auditor General to conduct review of Pittsburgh's water authority

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto announced Tuesday that the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority board, with support from the administration, will be inviting state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale to conduct his own performance investigation of the authority’s operations. 


The Office of Municipal Investigations (OMI) will also begin an investigation at PWSA to discover why the authority was forced to issue a flush and boil water advisory last week, causing upheaval for some 100,000 city residents.
