In an effort to address the long-term, systemic challenges facing Pittsburgh’s Water & Sewer Authority (PWSA), Mayor Bill Peduto hosted a hearing with an expert water panel tasked with finding solutions to the Authority’s aging infrastructure needs, crippling debt, and water quality issues on Friday as the political battle over the authority's future and Pittsburgh's water infrastructure needs grows.

Sponsors, advocates urge support for water fee bill

Soon-to-be-introduced legislation by Rep. Mike Sturla (D-Lancaster) to place a fee on water use received support from lawmakers and advocates Monday morning.

Depending on the type of water withdrawn and its subsequent use, the fee would be either 1/100th of a cent or 1/10th of a cent and is estimated to be able to generate $245 million annually for Pennsylvania.
