House Republicans set out to the high SEAS for budget savings

As the three-week stretch of budget hearings is starting to wind down, House Republicans on Wednesday unveiled an initiative that will allow them to hear from state employees instead of the agency heads that have been appearing before the appropriations committees since the end of February.

 

Dubbed “SEAS” for State Employees Achieving Savings, a cadre of House Republicans led by Rep. Marguerite Quinn (R-Bucks) announced the creation of a web portal that will allow state employees to directly contact the House Appropriations Committee with cost-savings ideas they have developed while operating on the front lines of state government.

Voter registration increases by over 250,000 in last year

The Governor’s Office of Transformation, Innovation, Management and Efficiency (GO-TIME) announced that, with the new online voter registration software, more than 250,000 Pennsylvanians have registered to vote in the past year.

The online voter registration (OVR) software was another part of the governor’s plan to improve online customer service in the commonwealth.

Legislators identify $3 billion in potential savings and nontax revenue sources

Sen. Scott Wagner (R-York) and Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) led the bicameral legislative Taxpayers’ Caucus Tuesday in a news conference unveiling more than $3 billion in potential savings and nontax revenue sources they say should be used before lawmakers turn to taxpayers to fill any existing budget holes.

“This is a new day and I don’t think Harrisburg has seen this before,” said Sen. Wagner about the things identified in the report, which also include recommendations about how to more effectively budget and implement economic growth strategies.

House Republicans form task force to find government redundancies, promote efficiency

A special task force of the House Republican Policy Committee was announced Monday morning, appointed to find redundancies in government and promote efficiencies to find savings that could potentially mitigate the need for revenue increases.

The endeavor by the 17-member group of Republicans is called PennSAVE, the acronym standing for savings, accountability, value, and efficiency.
