Capitol prepares for newly extended run of gun-policy public hearings

In response to a torrent of outrage on guns and cries for stricter gun laws, the Pennsylvania House Judiciary Committee will hold five public hearings over the next two weeks on firearm laws.

The meetings were originally slated for Monday through Thursday of next week, but will now run from April 9 through 11, along with April 16 and 17. The additional meetings were necessary to accommodate additional speakers.

CeaseFire PA Unveils 2014 Voters Guide on Gun Violence Prevention Issues

CeaseFire PA unveiled its Voter Guide for the 2014 race for Pennsylvania governor during a press conference at the Capitol on Monday.

The organization analyzed candidate positions on a variety of gun safety proposals, including improvements to Pa.’s background check system, a ban on assault weapon and high capacity magazines, and mandatory lost and stolen reporting. Each gubernatorial hopeful was assessed on his or her answers to CeaseFire PA’s questionnaire. Katie McGinty and Allyson Schwartz scored a 100%, Rob McCord scored a 84% and Tom Wolf scored a 79% while Tom Corbett and Bob Guzzardi did not respond to the questionnaire.
