Final report on career and technical education released by House select subcommittee

The House Select Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education released its final report Wednesday, co-chairs Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) and Rep. Pat Harkins (D-Erie) announced.

 

The select subcommittee was housed under the House Education Committee and formed as a result of House Resolution 102 in 2015 with the purpose of studying and reviewing Pennsylvania’s system of career and technical education, and suggesting changes.

Rep. Harkins joins supporters for HB 1082

At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, primary sponsor of HB 1082 (Jake Schwab Workers' Safety Bill) Rep. Patrick Harkins (D-Erie), spoke out with his thoughts of the bill. 

Rep. Harkins was joined by a bus-load of supporters who came down from Erie early Wednesday to demand support from legislators for the bill. 

 HB 1082 is aimed at improving workplace safety in the Commonwealth.

House hearing starts look at ways to increase career and technical education opportunities

A select subcommittee of the House Education Committee held its first hearing Tuesday examining how to increase K-12 career and technical education opportunities.

The Select Subcommittee on Career and Technical Education was formed by House Resolution 102 with bipartisan support in early March and is chaired by Rep. Seth Grove (R-York) and Rep. Patrick Harkins (D-Erie).

Lawmaker wants to bring OSHA to PA public employers

Public employers are exempt from the requirements of the federal Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), the law setting minimum workplace safety requirements.

Rep. Pat Harkins (D-Erie) is trying to change that in Pennsylvania.
