Pennsylvania natural gas industry hindered by regulatory processes

The Senate Majority Policy Committee and Senate Environmental Resource and Energy Committee held a joint hearing Wednesday morning on Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry, where they heard from industry insiders on the difficulties they face in dealing with Pennsylvania’s regulatory environment.

Pennsylvania has grown to be the second in natural gas production behind Texas, according Policy Committee Chairman Sen. David Argall (R-Berks).

Turzai: “I’m convinced we’re going to have an on-time budget”

House Speaker—and very-nearly-announced Republican candidate for governor—Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) was optimistic about a lot of things when he spoke to a crowd gathered at the monthly Pennsylvania Press Club luncheon.

 

First and foremost, with just six weeks before the end of the current fiscal year, he stated his confidence that a state budget will be in place before the new fiscal year begins on July 1.

Lawmakers, activists rally to support gun rights in Pennsylvania

Legislators led by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) and other gun rights activists gathered in the Capitol Monday morning for the 12th annual rally to advocate for the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The rally not only advocated for the Pennsylvania constitution’s Article 1, section 21 right to bear arms, but was used by legislators to lobby for certain bills that uphold or strengthen the activist’s belief in their rights.

Speaker Turzai voices opposition to Wolf’s proposed tax on computer and technology services

House Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) this week voiced his opposition to the currently proposed closure of a purported sales and use tax loophole that allows certain computer and technology services to avoid charging the Pennsylvania sales tax.

 

According to the balance sheet accompanying the governor’s proposed budget, the governor proposed closing this “special interest tax loophole” to generate about $330.3 million in the coming fiscal year.
