Southeast PA lawmakers aren't backing down on pipelines, despite action on Mariner East project

Many lawmakers and conservationists breathed a sigh of relief when the Department of Environmental Protection announced last week it would halt permit review on the controversial Mariner East pipeline.

But not Rep. Danielle Friel Otten (D-Chester).

“On the heels of that announcement, I’m watching bulldozers roll into my neighborhood right now,” Friel Otten said. “As I drive through my community, they are ramping up to get started on construction throughout Chester County again.”

As Wolf pushes for minimum wage increase, lawmakers hear from skeptics of the proposal

At least two researchers believe a proposal to raise the state’s minimum wage would ultimately damage the state’s economy, as a House committee launched a series of hearings on the matter Tuesday.

The House Labor and Industry Committee heard from two conservative economists and both underscored their belief that a provision in Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget to raise the minimum wage to $15 by 2025 would result in job losses.
