Special election results in the 114th and 190th legislative districts

This story will be updated as results and more information become available.

Residents of Pennsylvania’s 114th legislative district are heading to the polls today to elect a new state representative. On the ballot are Democrat Bridget Malloy Kosierowski and Republican Frank Scavo — two Lackawanna County residents who hope to earn the seat previously held by state Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich (D-Lackawanna), who died in October 2018.

Philadelphia has long been known as a Democratic stronghold, and Democrat Movita Johnson-Harrell hopes to build upon that success the special election for the 190th legislative district.

Kavulich dies following surgery complications, age 62

Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich (D-Lackawanna) passed away Tuesday from complications from heart surgery. He had been hospitalized earlier this month.

Lawmakers remembered him as someone who never let Harrisburg change a welcoming personality much, and for pristine health before the surgery.

His passing is also the second in as many days, third in the last three months, and fourth of the session to afflict the Democratic caucus.
