Annual right to bear arms rally attracts hundreds of gun owners, legislators, and law enforcement officials

Lines of people reached down the capitol steps to get in the Rotunda this morning where legislators, gun owners, and members of the law enforcement community gathered to rally to protect their right to keep and bear arms.


The rally has been held annually since 2006. 


Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) introduced an array of speakers who highlighted the importance of protecting Second Amendment rights.

Lawmakers, activists rally to support gun rights in Pennsylvania

Legislators led by Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) and other gun rights activists gathered in the Capitol Monday morning for the 12th annual rally to advocate for the Second Amendment right to bear arms.

The rally not only advocated for the Pennsylvania constitution’s Article 1, section 21 right to bear arms, but was used by legislators to lobby for certain bills that uphold or strengthen the activist’s belief in their rights.

Municipal gun ordinances can be challenged by pro-Second Amendment groups under adopted Senate amendment

After more than an hour of debate, an amendment by Sen. Richard Alloway (R-Franklin) to House Bill 80 that would allow municipal gun ordinances to be challenged in court by pro-Second Amendment gun rights groups ultimately passed by a vote of 32-16.

According to Sen. Alloway, the amendment would prohibit municipalities from adopting ordinances antithetical to the Second Amendment to the US Constitution and similar provisions in the Pennsylvania Constitution and give standing to membership organizations to challenge the ordinances on behalf of aggrieved members if their rights are violated by the municipality.
