Controversial education savings account bill voted out of Senate committee

A bill to set up individual education spending accounts funded with money earmarked for public schools passed the Senate Education Committee Tuesday.

By a 7-5 vote, the committee's Republicans reported SB 2 to the Senate, barring Sen. Robert Tomlinson (R-Bucks) who sided with Democrats against it.

After three false starts, school choice proponents look for progress in Tuesday Senate Education vote

Over the weekend, a vote on a controversial bill to create education savings accounts for low income Pennsylvanians was added to a Senate Education Committee meeting set for Tuesday morning.

The bill, SB 2, is now on the committee calendar for the fourth time since last fall as Republicans have tried to rally votes.
