House committee advances grand jury suggestion missing from statute bill

The House-amended statute of limitations bill may hit snags in the Senate by lacking two grand jury suggestions, but Wednesday a bill to address a third was advanced by state representatives in committee.

Rep. Todd Stephen’s (R-Montgomery) HB 2641 would create stricter punishments for not reporting child abuse or suspicions of child abuse, as the grand jury on Catholic sexual abuse suggested when released last month.

House remains torn on what to do to combat gun violence

House members discussed potential legislation that limits access to guns and there was no consensus during the fifth gun policy public hearing Tuesday. 

House Bill 1400, the background check bill and House Bill 194, legislation that would ban assault weapons, got the most criticism from Rep. Rick Saccone (R- Allegheny) and Rep. Barry Jozwiak (R-Berks).
