With Arizona death in rearview mirror, PennDOT introduces plan to regulate autonomous vehicles

In light of a fatal accident in Arizona last month involving an Uber autonomous vehicle, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced a plan to increase safety regulations for self-driving vehicles in the commonwealth Monday.

“We value the contribution that companies and other entities engaged in autonomous vehicle research and deployment bring to Pennsylvania, but we can’t ignore the concern, and safety always comes first,” PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards said at a summit in Pittsburgh on self-driving vehicles.
