Senate Dems name 2019 committee chairs

Senate Democrats also named their new committee chairs on Monday. 

All five of the caucus's freshmen took over as committee chairs including Sen. Maria Collett (D-Montgomery), Sen. Steve Santasiero (D-Bucks), Sen. Katie Muth (D-Montogmery) and Sen. Lindsey Williams (D-Allegheny) and Sen Tim Kearney (D-Delaware).

Following wave of vacancies, House GOP chairmanships face shake up

Rep. Rob Kauffman (R-Franklin) was named new chief of the powerful House Judiciary Committee while Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) will take over the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee, two of the many shuffles needed to cover nine openings from retirements and electoral defeats in caucus committee leadership.

Kauffman had previously been chair of the House Labor and Industry Committee, while Metcalfe chaired State Government.

Metcalfe committee tirade prompts Democratic calls for chair resignation

After Rep. Daryl Metcalfe’s (R-Butler) outburst Tuesday over a touch on the arm from Rep. Matthew Bradford (D-Montgomery) that led to the former questioning the sexuality of the latter, Democrats are calling for Metcalfe to resign as majority chairman of the House State Government  Committee.

As the majority chair of that committee, Metcalfe controls whether any civil rights legislation could reach the House floor, including HB 1410, written by Rep. Dan Frankel (D-Allegheny), which would provide workplace discrimination protections for LGBT individuals to state law.
