Pittsburgh, Allegheny County have "effectively" ended veterans homelessness

Officials said Tuesday that close to 600 homeless veterans have found housing in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County since 2015 thanks to a national program.

Pittsburgh and the county joined veteran advocacy groups in 2014 to create the Pittsburgh Rapid Results Homeless Veterans’ Boot Camp, consisting of service providers across the country to put systems in place to find permanent housing for veterans.

Pittsburgh City Council passes legislation for lead paint remediation, PWSA restructuring funds

Pittsburgh City Council passed their portion of providing funding for a $3.4 million Lead Safety and Healthy Homes Grant with Allegheny County during their meeting Tuesday, but not before ensuring the city will receive its fair share of the funds.  

The Department of Economic Development of Allegheny County has been awarded the grant by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to identify and control lead-based paint hazards in county homes and rental units.
