Legislators express concerns about potential merger of Department of Corrections, Board of Probation and Parole in House committee hearing

The House Judiciary Committee held a public hearing Thursday to discuss another consolidation attempt from Gov. Tom Wolf’s budget proposal: the consolidation of the Department of the Department of Corrections and the Board of Probation and Parole.

This consolidation, under Senate Bill 522 and Senate Bill 523, would merge the two entities together, a system that a majority of other states use.

Consolidation of Department of Corrections, Board of Probation and Parole takes a step toward passage

With all of the hullabaloo surrounding the potential merger of four human services-related state agencies into one Department of Health and Human Services, the proposal to merge the Department of Corrections and the Board of Probation and Parole has flown a bit under the radar.

 

On Monday, however, the Senate Appropriations Committee took another step toward advancing the proposal to the governor’s desk.
