People with disabilities talk to legislators at Pittsburgh summit

At Representative Dan Miller’s (D-Allegheny) annual Disability Summit, a group of bipartisan leaders gathered to hear from advocates, people with disabilities, and their loved ones Friday afternoon outside of Pittsburgh.

Miller, with other lawmakers such as Rep. Austin Davis (D-Allegheny) and Sen. Camera Bartolotta (R-Washington) spoke with people with disabilities about their experiences and heard their suggestions on accessible public infrastructure, anti bullying policies, and access to assistance.

Legislators, advocates and those affected rally for bill to prohibit abortion of children with Down syndrome

Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and Rep. Judy Ward (R-Blair) spoke at a rally Monday afternoon to discuss House Bill 2050. This bill would prohibit the abortion of a child due solely to a diagnosis of possible Down syndrome.

Sen. Langerholc one of many to rally against removing individuals with disabilities from their workplaces

Sen. Wayne Langerholc (R-Cambria) was one of many legislators who rallied to prevent residents of Pennsylvania with disabilities from being forced out of their workplaces and day programs. 

According to advocates, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is attempting to force individuals with disabilities to spend 75 percent of their time in the community and away from their workshops and programs.
