Pittsburgh City Councilman seeking to develop former Civic Arena site over the Penguins

A Pittsburgh City Council member introduced a piece of legislation Thursday that seeks to skirt around the Pittsburgh Penguins to redevelop the former Civic Arena site in the Lower Hill District, the Penguins previous home.

Councilman Daniel Lavelle (District 6) is asking the City Solicitor Lourdes Sanchez Ridge to research the city’s legal options for opening the 28-acre site to other developers outside of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the owners of the redevelopment rights to the property.
