The Wolf administration announced Tuesday afternoon that Secretary of the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Gary Tennis will be leaving the administration.

 

In Tennis’s absence, Deputy Secretary Jennifer Smith will serve as Acting Secretary.

Task force examining access to addiction treatment meets in Pittsburgh

Lt. Gov. Mike Stack joined the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP) Sec. Gary Tennis Friday in Pittsburgh to examine existing laws governing access to addiction treatment.

With the passage of House Resolution 590 in May, DDAP has been responsible for putting together a task force to review public comment and testimony presented at six hearings across the state in order to assess barriers to accessing substance abuse disorder treatments, specifically treatment for heroin and opioid abuse.

Wolf administration touts new opioid prescribing guidelines

Gov. Tom Wolf was joined by members of his cabinet Tuesday afternoon to announce a new step in the fight against opioid addiction: the release and affirmation of new opioid prescribing guidelines for physicians, dentists, and pharmacists.

 

The guidelines are the work product of a task force convened by the Department of Health and the Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs to develop guidelines to assist prescribers and pharmacists make better opioid prescribing decisions in the hope of stemming the tide of opioid addiction.
