Wolf Administration says Berks County Residential Center conditions do not warrant an emergency removal order

As federal immigration raids have reignited a national debate on immigration policy, Pennsylvania is facing an immigration-related conundrum of its own — what to do with a federal facility in Berks County that houses immigrants without documentation.

Activists have called on Gov. Tom Wolf’s administration to unilaterally shut down the Berks County Residential Center (BCRC), but officials say current conditions do not warrant an emergency removal order (ERO).

DHS removes all students from Glen Mills School

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services announced Monday the emergency removal of the remaining students at Glen Mills School. 

The Delaware County residential education school for juvenile delinquents currently houses 107 students, 64 from in-state. Some counties and states have previously removed their assigned students after reports of abuse and cover-ups came to light.
