Eleventh hour effort by severance tax supporters to bring up legislation fails

A late night effort Tuesday by a bipartisan group of supporters of natural gas severance tax legislation failed to get the constitutional majority needed to call the bill up to continue debate on the amendment process related to the legislation.

 

While the motion by Rep. Todd Stephens (R-Montgomery) received a majority vote from members present, such a motion requires a constitutional majority of all members seated in the House.

As House Democrats unveil “Plan for PA,” Republicans counter with budget and regulatory reform agenda

The House Democratic Caucus this week unveiled what they are calling a “Plan for PA,” a legislative agenda they hope will get action in the coming months as legislators work on action in the interstitial period between the FY 2017-2018 budget and the FY 2018-2019 budget.

 

According to the caucus, the thrust of the four-pronged plan is a focus on solutions for working, middle-class Pennsylvanians that creates jobs, makes taxes fairer, and ensures a quality public education.
