Wagner apologizes in farewell address to Senate as focus turns to general election

Wagner, who won the GOP primary in mid-May over health care consultant Paul Mango and attorney Laura Ellsworth, gave a subdued, conciliatory farewell address on the Senate Floor to mark the day.

In it, he celebrated his surprising arrival via a write-in victory in a 2014 special election, and thanked his colleagues on both sides of the aisle for working with him on myriad issues. He also apologized for times when his fiery personality may have caused offense.

Wagner to resign seat Monday to focus on governor's race

Wagner’s resignation, first reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, was confirmed this evening by his campaign spokesperson Andrew Romeo.

“[Wagner] realizes that the way he can bring about the most change and do the most good for the commonwealth is to devote all his time and energy toward getting elected governor and giving Pennsylvanians a different choice,” Romeo said in an email.
