Pittsburgh lawmakers back state level policing reforms, but path forward is uncertain

While some Democrats have come out strong for new policy in the wake of the shooting of Antwon Rose Jr. in Pittsburgh several weeks ago, the legislation might not be received warmly.

An East Pittsburgh police officers shot and killed Rose, a 17-year-old unarmed black teen, while he was fleeing a traffic stop on June 19. The police officer was arrested, and Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala said he was pursuing murder charges.

Worried about displacement, Pittsburghers demand to see Amazon bid

With signs demanding transparency, community investment, and their very own ‘Alexa’ more than 20 community organizers and concerned residents gathered in front of the Pittsburgh City-County Building to ask that elected officials release their much discussed Amazon HQ2 bid to the public Wednesday.

Pittsburgh along with Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago, and over a dozen other cities, is competing to land Amazon’s second headquarters.
