Democrats consider sexual assault reporting bill for college campuses

The House Democratic Policy Committee discussed House Bill 962, the Safe Campuses Act, during Friday’s public hearing at Temple University.

Rep. Maria Donatucci (D-Philadelphia), the bill’s prime sponsor, wants Pennsylvania to require all post-secondary schools, colleges, and universities to adopt policies to have a uniform standard for reporting sexual harassment.

Rep. Quigley hopes to make online students eligible for state grants

The PLS Reporter joined Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) to talk about his bill that would allow students enrolled in online education programs to be eligible for Pennsylvania state grants. 

Currently Pennsylvania is the only state that does not have a program like this enacted permanently, so Rep. Quigley is trying to make what is a temporary pilot program in Pennsylvania a permanent thing.

New Keystone Scholars program introduced to help PA families save for higher education

Treasurer Joe Torsella announced Monday that Pennsylvania is launching the Keystone Scholars program. 

This program's purpose is to help encourage Pennsylvania families to plan for their children's higher education, and, to help start them off, it will give children a $100 grant at birth. 

This program will start in six counties--Delaware, Elk, Indiana, Luzerne, Mifflin, and Westmoreland--and will be provided to all children born or adopted in 2018 and 2019.
