Kinship care issues analyzed by House Children and Youth Committee

The Pennsylvania House committee on Children and Youth held a hearing Wednesday morning to address thoughts and hear from professionals on grandparents raising their grandchildren.

The testifiers ranged from state legislators to actual grandparents impacted by this evolving situation in the commonwealth. The focus of their testimony was on how the legislators can take action.

Children may fall into the custody of their grandparents from a variety of ways, but the committee aimed to analyze the legal, parental, and financial challenges the grandparents face when trying to take custody of their grandchild.
