Bill updating requirements of police body-worn cameras on its way to becoming law

In a near unanimous vote, the state Senate passed legislation Tuesday that would clear the way for body worn cameras on police officers to be used more frequently.

Senate Bill 560 amends the state Wiretap Act to enable police officers to enter a private residence with an activated body-worn camera that audio-records conversations. Previously, an officer with a body-worn camera could only record, with audio, in a public space.

Pittsburgh to bring back its mounted horse police unit

The Pittsburgh Department of Police is one step closer to revamping its mounted horse police squad. 

The Public Safety Services Committee of Pittsburgh City Council on Monday considered a bill that would reinstate the Mounted Police Trust Fund (MPTF) to support the mounted police program- a program that was halted in 2004 when the city went under Act 47.
