Senate Democrats, led by Sen. Vince Hughes, this week launched a vociferous defense of Senator-elect Lindsay Williams, who eked out a victory in Allegheny County against her Republican challenger for the seat formerly held by Sen. Randy Vulakovich. The Senate Republican Caucus has questioned Willliams’ eligibility to run for the post.

  While hosting a Twitter Q&A this week, Gov. Wolf signaled his openness to investigating the legalization of recreational marijuana in the commonwealth. A shift in tone from the governor, who previously seemed cool on the idea, was applauded by some elected officials, including Auditor General Eugene DePasquale. Others, including Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman (R-Centre), emphasized their opposition to recreational pot.

  On Thursday the state’s Public Pension Management and Asset Investment Review Commission voted to approve a report containing an estimated $10 billion in cost savings recommendations for the way the state invests its pension funds.
