Monday saw the first total solar eclipse over the United States since 1979. Though Pennsylvania was north of the path of totality, the commonwealth was able to see more than 70 percent of the sun blocked by the moon. Legislators in their districts and elsewhere checked out the phenomenon.

  On Wednesday the House State Government Committee held a meeting to investigate questionable spending practices by Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack. The issue has caused some lawmakers to recommend reforms to how the position is run and some have even called into question its necessity altogether.

  Meanwhile Democrats and Republicans in the House continued to trade shots over the stalled 2017-2018 state budget.
